American Eugenics High School Curriculum

This educational resource seeks to introduce high school students to the American Eugenics Movement from the perspectives of media, law, and pseudoscience. Topics covered include the origins of eugenics, pseudoscience & research, the role of media, the role of laws, and connections to Nazi Germany. This will be facilitated by a primary document gallery with potent media from the American Eugenics Movement and discussion questions. In addition, there is a group inquiry project that allows students to work together to reckon with a specific aspect of the American Eugenics Movement and present their learning to each other. These assignments aim to allow students to face our history in meaningful and critical ways.

My name is Tenzin Dhondup (he/him) and I'm a first-year at Yale University studying the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health. I wrote this curriculum while I was a senior at Naugatuck High School.
